Walter Greene Strange, Jr., 98, of Tifton passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chip Grantham officiating. Mr. Strange will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Bill Bowen, John Bowen, Michael Bowen, Caleb Warnock, Chip Lee, Tommy Lindsey, Russ Vann, Adam Smith and James Gilmore will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the Walmart Pharmacy.
Born May 30, 1923, in Ellaville, Mr. Strange was the son of the late Walter Greene Strange, Sr. and Jeanette Harrison Strange. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Murthel Bryan Strange; one son, Sonny Strange; one grandson, Jake Stewart; three sisters and their husbands, Jeanette and Walter Knowlton, Sue and Sam Stephens and Arbie Ann and Palmer Bridges; and a brother-in-law, Porter Campbell. Before retiring, he was the owner and operator of Strange’s Pharmacy in Tifton for 40 years and then worked at the Walmart Pharmacy for 27 years. He was a member of Tifton’s First United Methodist Church and a member of the Tifton Rotary Club and the Tifton Exchange Club. He was also a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Strange is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Angela and David Stewart of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Margie Strange of Americus; one sister, Betty Campbell of Franklin, Tennessee; one granddaughter and her husband, Mandy and Caleb Warnock; two great-grandchildren, Salem and Charlie Warnock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
