Roberta G. (Sturgeon) Nadeau, 67, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the life partner of the late David VanMatre
Ms. Nadeau was born in Acushnet, daughter of the late Glenn H. Sturgeon and the late Alice H. (Medeiros) Sturgeon Peirce and had been a longtime resident of New Bedford. Prior to her retirement, she worked for various area Shaws Supermarkets for many years. Throughout her life Roberta enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, boating, and crocheting and has made many wonderful crocheted things for family and friends. She also loved her new found passion of exploring beaches and looking for sea glass and heart shaped rocks which she converted to works of art and most recently jewelry. Most of all she loved spending "time" with her friends and family.
Roberta will be remembered as a devoted mother and advocate to her son Tommy as well as for her kindness and compassion for others. She will be sorely missed.
Survivors include her sister: Glenda A. Charest Durante of New Bedford; her 5 brothers: David P. Sturgeon of New Bedford, Everett J. Sturgeon and his wife Barbara of Dartmouth, Peter B. Sturgeon and his partner Beth of New Bedford, Steven A. Sturgeon and his wife Mary of Fairhaven and Mark K. Sturgeon and his wife Oletta of Dartmouth; sister-in-law: Joyce Sturgeon of FL; 3 nieces who affectionately referred to her as "Tia Voa": Ashley L. Clark, Olivia H. Charest and Corinne R. Charest; along with numerous nieces and nephews and many loving friends.
She was the mother of the late Thomas J. Nadeau and sister of the late Michael Sturgeon, James Sturgeon, Glenn H. Sturgeon and Paula A. Simmons.
Graveside services will be private.
