CHICOPEE – Elizabeth Aurelia Marshall 92, a longtime resident of the Fairview section of Chicopee, passed peacefully in her sleep into Eternal life on December 4, 2021.
Beloved daughter of the late Reginald and Jesse (Dickhart) Cartledge, Betty was born in Brooklyn, NY on Nov 25, 1929, where she was raised and educated, receiving a degree as a Registered Nurse. Shortly thereafter, she married her beloved husband, the late Willard "Willie" G. Marshall, whose career as a MSgt in the USAF brought them to eventually settle down in Chicopee, MA in the mid to late 1950's.
Betty worked as a charge nurse at Springfield Hospital/Baystate Medical Center for approximately 25 years and then took a position at the Holyoke VNA and Hospice where she brought peace and comfort to her patients and their families for over 12 years until her retirement.
She had many talents and a love of the arts, which eventually resulted in her achievement of a degree in History from Our Lady of the Elms College. She was a communicant of Saint Anne's Parish and volunteered her time as an archivist at Our Mother of Sorrow Monastary & Retreat Center in West Springfield.
Betty will be deeply missed by her children Dale Ann Marshall, Alexis "Al" Germana and her husband Mark, Allison "Sonny" Marshall, Michael "Mickey" Marshall, Van Marshall and his wife Joanne, Kellie Jenks and her husband Phil; her grandchildren Leslie, Robin, Jesse, Christy, Amy, James, Jordan, Taylor, and Travis; many great grandchildren; her brother in-law Harold Molinari, her dear friend Frank Stefanelli, and her many nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, numerous friends, and extended members of the Marshall and Cartledge families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her loving son David Marshall, sons-in-law Stephen Beaudoin and Steven Vlohiotis, her brother Bobby Cartledge and sister Maureen Molinari, and cherished grandson Aaron Marshall. She was deeply loved by the people she served, her dear friends, and family members.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at 9:00 am at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Committal Service along with the Committal Service of her late husband, with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow Mass at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. All are welcome to join us at the home of Leslie Marshall, 546 Fuller St, Ludlow, MA 01056, following the Committal Service. Her funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
