Obituary

WAYLAND: Dorothy M. Plumb died peacefully on December 5, 2021 at home at age 91. She was the beloved wife of the late David R. Plumb of Wayland for 47 years until his passing in September 2006.
She is survived by her children Carole Plumb and Stephen Plumb both of Wayland as well as eleven nieces and nephews. She was the loving daughter of the late Elsie M. Orr and Henry F. Daley of Newton where she grew up with her late sister Estelle (Daley) Scammon of Wellesley.
Her first job was in high school at a local bakery and with those skills she would supply family and friends with fresh baked goods for birthdays and holidays. She started at the original ATT as an operator and, after raising her family, returned to work for one of the continually splitting and merging phone companies as a service representative until she retired.
Dorothy was the family instigator for “let’s do something” like skiing, hiking, camping or going to the Town Beach at Lake Cochituate or on Martha’s Vineyard. She enjoyed sewing and played bridge with her group of girlfriends for many years. Dorothy and David would often take nightly walks around the neighborhood arm in arm.
Most often you could find Dorothy with her nose in a book until Covid restrictions drove her to learn to use the iPad apps which she came to enjoy but not like real paper books.
A graveside service for Dorothy will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 11:00 am at Lakeview Cemetery, 80 Commonwealth Rd (Rt. 30), Wayland.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Dorothy may be sent to Friends of the Wayland Library, 5 Concord Rd, Wayland, MA 01778
