Obituary



Lois Patricia (Fitzgerald) Hickey, 93, of Somerville and Melrose, passed away peacefully on December 6th, 2021 surrounded by family. She was born on June 12th, 1928 in Somerville Mass. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, William F Hickey, who passed away in 2003.

Lois was the daughter of Henry and May (Cross) Fitzgerald and was predeceased by her siblings, Ruth Anna Goodwin, Claudia Costello and H.Robert Fitzgerald.

Lois is survived by her nine Children, Kathy Dangora and her late husband Richie of Somerville, Ellen DiMinico, and her husband Al of Woburn, Bill Jr, and his wife Denese of Somerville, Don and his wife Cindy of Woburn, Mary Gentile and her husband Tony of Melrose, Tom and his wife Jill of Maynard, Steve and his wife Susan of Virginia, Rob and his wife Kris of Bedford, and Jim and his husband Joe Peix of Florida.

Lois was a loving Nana of her grandchildren, Al David and Kathleen DiMinico, Mark and Jamie DiMinico, Michael and Shaila Gentile, Ashley Hickey, Chris Hickey, David Hickey and his fiancée Chelsea, Adam Gentile, Kevin Hickey, Matthew Hickey, Alex Hickey, Meredith Hickey, Owen Hickey and Will Hickey. Nana Hickey was also great grandmother of Andrew, Sarah, Eamon, Quinn, Dylan, and Emerson DiMinico and Amaya, Simon, and Elliot Gentile.

Lois enjoyed spending her time with family and cherished her summers at White Horse Beach in Plymouth. She was an expert at the Globe Crossword puzzles and often had a large jigsaw puzzle in process on a table. She also enjoyed her annual trips to Florida where she'd spend the winter months. Lois also spent countless hours volunteering at St Catherine's School in Somerville, as well as a vibrant and participating member of St Catherine's Parish in Somerville, and later at St. Mary's Parish in Melrose. A devout Catholic with incredible Faith. A faith shown by her loving heart. Every person she met was special to her.

Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Saturday, December 11th, at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Eulalia Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester, at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held on Friday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Lois will be laid to rest with her husband Bill at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Lois’ memory to the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Mission of Advancement, 637 Cambridge St., Brighton, MA 02135 or to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.

Out of concern for everyone's safety, the family is requesting that everyone attending visiting hours and the funeral services to please wear a face mask.
