George "Alfaiate" Soares, 67, of New Bedford died April 19, 2006 at New Bedford Health Care Center after a long illness.
He was the husband of Mary U. (Amaral) Soares.
Born in Salga, St. Michael, Azores, son of the late Jose and Conceicao P. (Bulhoes) Alfaiate, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Soares was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church and enjoyed attending charismatic prayer meetings at Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
He was formerly employed by Cliftex for many years until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Bernadette Costa, and her husband Tercio, of Palm Coast, FL; 3 sons, Michael Soares, and his wife Elsie, Steven Soares, and his fiancée Elizabeth Lavoie and Angelo Soares, and his companion Melissa Moniz, all of New Bedford; 4 brothers, Manuel Alfaiate, Joe Soares and Arthur Soares, all of New Bedford and Frank Alfaiate of Fairhaven; a sister, Maria Cabral of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren, Lyndsey and Corey Costa, Paige and Alexias Soares and Jordan Soares; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday, April 22nd at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 9 AM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Friday, April 21st from 6-9 PM.
Interment St. John's Cemetery.
