SPRINGFIELD – Rose Y. (Bernard) Peters, 78, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, December 5, 2021. She passed into Eternal Life at Sixteen Acres Health Care Center in Springfield surrounded by all of the memories that she loved and cherished. She was born in Springfield on December 12, 1942, a beloved daughter of the late Eliodore and Beatrice (Brodeur) Bernard. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School, entered into the Nursing Program at Roger L. Putnam Vocational School, received her Nursing Certificate from Springfield Technical Community College, and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years at Pine Manor and Chapin Center, both in Springfield. During her leisure time, she was an avid bingo player and hit all of the local "hot spots" in the area. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Albert E. Peters. They were married on March 3, 1962 at the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 58 years of happiness together. She also leaves her five loving children, Patricia S. Couture and her husband, Edward, and Lynda L. Romeo and her husband, Pasquale, all of Springfield, Christopher Peters and his wife, Kim-Marie, of Westfield, Brenda Gardner and her husband, Ronald, of Holyoke, and Matthew Peters and his wife, Renae, of Virginia Beach, VA; her 12 cherished grandchildren, Kimberlee Couture, William Couture, Edward Couture, Stephanie Kane and her husband, Ryan, Pasquale N. Romeo, Anthony M. Romeo, Sophia R. Romeo, Jessica Harris and her husband, Chris, Courtney Czeremcha, Taylor Campbell and her husband, Matthew, Cameron Peters, and Evan Peters; her four cherished great grandchildren, Eden Couture, Josephine Kane, Madison Harris, and Benjamin Harris; her two dear brothers, Paul Bernard of Springfield, and Wilfred "Bill" Bernard of Englewood, CA; her dear sister-in-law, Suzanne Brunelle and her husband, Victor, of Granby; her four dear brothers-in-law, Philip Peters of Chicopee and Raymond Peters and his wife, Linda, all of Chicopee, James Bolen of Arizona, and Russell Atkinson of Hartford, CT; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear brother, Norman Bernard, her two dear sisters, Marie Crafa and Corrine Bolen; and her two dear sisters-in-law, Yvette Bernard and Gail Atkinson. A Prayer Service will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 11:15 a.m. at the at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.), followed by a Committal Service at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 13, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. before the Service. Masks are recommended for her funeral services.
