Obituary


NEW BEDFORD - Richard F. Cormier, age 92 years, of New Bedford, died on December 3, 2021 at home, after a period of declining health. Husband of the late Anne B.( Eddy) Cormier, he was born in Bridgewater, son of the late Edmond J. and Viola M. (Suzor) Cormier and lived much of his life in New Bedford. Dick worked for many years as civilian staff administrator for the 483rd Engineer Battalion at Fort Rodman in New Bedford. He was a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Levenworth, Kansas and Burdett College in Boston

A retired Colonel in the U.S.Army, he served in the Korean War. Dick was the recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Army Achievement Medal. the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, USAR Achievement Medal, the Army Occupation Medal-Japan, the National Defense Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal(operation snow blow IT), the Armed Forces Service Medal, and the Cold War Victory Commemorative Medal

Dick was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church, active in the twenty-thirty club and a vestry member He was also a member of the Men's Luncheon Club, former president of the Wamsutta Club, active with the Lions Club as King Lion and Treasurer. He was a Mason and Shriner, member of the Allepo Temple. As a youth he was active in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. For several years Dick and Anne lived in Pompano Beach, Florida and were active members of St. Martin's Episcopal Church


Dick is survived by his son Brian and his wife Doreen of Acushnet, his daughter Susan Cormier and grandson Ryan Jankowski both of Greenville, N.C..

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children.

Visiting hours at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St. N.B. on Wednesday Dec. 8th from 6-8 P.M. His funeral will take place at Grace Episcopal Church 422 County St. .N.B.. on Thursday Dec. 9th at 11 A.M followed by military honors at Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven. wilsonchapel.net
