Obituary

Rita B. Butland (Hureau) passed away peacefully at the Brightview Assisted Living in Arlington. She was 101. Raised in Malden she was the daughter of the late Philip and Emma (Boudreau) Hureau.

Rita was a delightful woman who loved to spend time with her family and friends. She was a good wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She particularly enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rita lived many years on Norton Ave. in Medford, and actually continued to live in her home into her late 90’s. She was a good neighbor and friend to the many families who lived near her and will be missed by all who knew her.


The beloved wife of the late John Butland who passed away in 1990, Rita was a devoted mother to John Butland and his wife Juanita of Pembroke, NH, Edward Butland and his wife Maria of Randolph, and Ann Marie Gregory and her husband Richard of Manchester, NH. She was a loving grandmother to nine grandchildren and loving great-grandmother to eight great-grandchildren. Rita was the dear sister of Theresa Liguori of Danvers, the late Marjorie Braesse, Mary Glenn, Mabel Murray, Charlotte MacArthur, Genevieve Broussard, Charles, Godfrey, and Philip Hureau, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Rita’s funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Thursday December 9th at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 11:30 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, 4 - 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rita's name to Visiting Nurse and Community Care, 37 Broadway, Arlington, MA 02474.
