Obituary

Edward V. Fontana, age 94, a longtime resident of Stoneham, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Angelina R. (Marranzini) Fontana.

Born in Medford he was the son of the late Salvatore and Mary (Sebastiani) Fontana. He attended Medford Vocational Technical High School. After high school, he went to work for White Fuel, and then enlisted in the Navy during World War II, having served on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. Upon discharge, he returned to White Fuel and worked as an electrician, pipefitter and oil boiler technician. He remained there for 40 years, until, at age 62, he went to work at P.J. Kennedy Electrical Contractors until age 82, continuing his work on industrial heating systems still climbing ladders, carrying pipes, installing boilers and fixing everything. He was an active member of the Pipefitters Union Local 537 and Teamsters Local 25.

Ed was introduced to Angelina Marranzini at a dinner party hosted by her sister, Theresa Sarno, and he became the love of her life. They were married three months later, at a wedding with over 500 guests, and they remained faithfully married until her passing in 2019, just shy of their 69th wedding anniversary.

Ed’s daughters remember him as a hard-working man, and how much he loved to work. He was always up early, whistling and out the door at about 5AM, and enjoyed meeting the guys for coffee and breakfast. In his spare time, Ed loved to garden and maintain his lawn. His tomatoes and flowers were planted perfectly spaced and always impeccably kept. As a devoted husband and father, Sunday dinners and holidays were always a fun party and a treasured time with his family.

Ed is lovingly survived by his devoted daughters: Carol A. Fontana of Stoneham and Linda E. Scioli and her late husband Robert of Reading. He was the loving grandfather of Dan Dillon and his wife Jennifer of WA, Theresa Dillon and her partner Mike Judd of WA, Gina Brett and her husband Cory, of Reading and Robbi Scioli and his wife Eleni of Danvers, and the cherished great-grandfather of Dexter and Angelina Dillon, and Milo Brett. He was the dear brother of Joseph Fontana and his late wife Mary, of Tewksbury, William Fontana and his wife Marianne of AZ, the late Carmella Mitrano and her late husband Frank of Medford, the late Salvatore Fontana and his surviving wife Maureen of FL. Also survived by many much-loved nieces and nephews.
