Domenica A. Mooney, known by her friends and family as “Dee”, passed away on Monday November 29th, 2021. She was born on February 6th 1939, in Brooklyn New York, to Anthony and Rose Ponzini .
As a teenager she worked at the Angel Guardian Home for Little Children and cared for babies waiting for adoption. Dee started her career as an executive secretary at Columbia Pictures in New York City. She married Bill Mooney and moved to East Lyme Connecticut in 1972 to raise her family and work as an administrative assistant to the director of security at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital.
In 1995 she moved to North Stonington and retired after 20 years looking forward to spoiling her grandchildren who she loved deeply and entertaining family and friends at their pool. Dee was known for her contagious laugh, playful nature and was full of love. She was famous for saying “Love is the answer”. She was kind, sensitive and nurturing to many. Dee made friends easily and befriended everyone. She was intuitive and provided excellent advice. She enjoyed the beach and traveled to several Caribbean islands. Dee loved to dance and was the first on and last off the dance floor. She wrote poetry and was recognized for her creative writing. Dee and her husband were avid antique collectors. She was a volunteer at The Cove Center for Grieving Children in Stonington, CT.
Dee was predeceased by her husband Bill Mooney of 49 years. Dee is survived by her daughter, Darlene Mooney Stefanski and Neil Goldman of Stonington Connecticut, and her son Dean Mooney of Wake Forest North Carolina. In addition, she is survived by her two grandchildren Jaden Stefanski and Sage Stefanski of Stonington Connecticut.
