Obituary

Anthony Jones also known as “Tony” was born on June 23, 1955 in Boston, Massachusetts to Mary M. Jones and Atanasio J. Semedo. Anthony passed away on November 28, 2021 due to heart failure. Anthony was the second of five children. He is predeceased in death by his mother, Mary M. Jones, sister, Temple Jones and sister-in-law, Cheryl Semedo.

He attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Roxbury High School. After graduating from high school, Anthony got a job at the Star Market as a bagger. His employer observed Anthony’s dedication and admired his work ethic so much that they promoted him to multiple job positions within the company. He worked for the supermarket for forty-nine plus years. Anthony enjoyed his last position as one of the best meat cutters at the McGrath Highway Star Market in Cambridge, MA., until his retirement due to heart complications.

While at Star Market, Anthony met the love of his life, Beverly Williams, who also was an employee at the store. After three years of dating, Anthony and Beverly “jumped the broom.” They were married on June 22, 1990. The following year, Anthony and Beverly welcomed their beautiful baby girl named Samantha.

Anthony’s favorite hobby was golfing at Myrtle Beach. His culinary skills were very good, especially his lasagna, steak tips and fish chowder. He occasionally would visit the casino to play poker. He loved watching his favorite football team, The New England Patriots, either on the television or at Gillette Stadium. For a few years, Anthony had season tickets to attend and enjoyed his tailgate Patriots games. Anthony passed on the love of the game to his daughter, Samantha. They both were passionate Patriots fans along with his brother, Sylvester. Anthony’s nephew, Angelo was treated to his first pro football game at Gillette Stadium via his Uncle Anthony. Anthony enjoyed traveling with his family. His favorite places to visit were Aruba, Florida and Jamaica.

Anthony was devoted to his family and loved by all who knew him, including his Star Market coworkers. His relationships with his coworkers were like those of a second family to him. His smile would light up the room! Anthony was a peaceful and proud man. Rest in peace and in the presence of God’s Embrace!

Anthony was well loved and will be greatly missed. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory, his wife, Beverly Jones, daughter, Samantha Jones, brother Sylvester Semedo, sisters, Juliana Jones and Gail Jones, brother-in-law, Alexander Lynn and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
