Obituary

HOLYOKE – Stephen W. "Steve" Chouinard, 66, of Holyoke, was called safely home on Sunday, November 28th, 2021. He passed into God's loving arms at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones as they told their favorite stories about their father, their husband, their friend.
Stephen was born in Holyoke on September 17th, 1955 to his loving parents, the late Alexander and Irene (Edwards) Chouinard. He attended Holyoke High School, after which he worked at National Blank Book (later Avery Dennison). After marrying, he lived in Chicopee for 30+ years before returning to Holyoke in 2018, where he lived out the remainder of his life.
Stephen loved playing cards with friends and family on Saturday nights and bursting into song every chance he could get. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife and children, and he was especially fond of the annual family trip to Lake Winnipesaukee. He also loved making his family and friends laugh and was never at a loss at how to do so. His sense of humor is what will be missed the most.
Stephen leaves behind his beloved wife, Holly L. (Mercure) Chouinard. They were married on September 22, 1984 and recently celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary. He also leaves behind his four loving children, Matthew Alexander, Caroline Cora, Daniel Stephen and Joseph Donald, all of Holyoke.
He is also survived by his siblings, Nancy, Glenn, Beverly, Gail and Robert and his wife, Sue.
Additional surviving family members include his father-in-law, Donald Mercure; his brother-in-law, Randy Mercure and his wife, Kim; and his two sisters-in-law, Laurie Schoolcraft and her husband, Allen, of Hampden and Amy Varney and her husband, Dale; and several nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind his many friends including Raymond and Phyllis Crete, Stephen's lifelong best friends and honorary aunt and uncle to his children.
In addition to his parents, Stephen joins in Heaven his brother, Alex Chouinard; his brother-in-law, Vinny Fappiano; and his mother-in-law, Nancy Mercure.
Stephen's funeral services will be private with no visiting hours. His arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street Chicopee, MA 01020.
