Obituary

On the evening of November 24, 2021, David Francis Laubacher (78) passed away after a lengthy illness. Dave was born September 13, 1943 in Oxnard, California to Eugene and Zella Hughes Laubacher. Dave attended Santa Clara grammar and Santa Clara High Schools. He attended Santa Clara University and graduated from California State University Northridge.
Dave loved all sports and was a talented athlete. While in high school he earned Varsity letters in Football, Basketball, and Baseball, and was named the Saints best athlete in 1961. He played defensive back on the football team and point guard on the basketball team. As a junior he played on the 1960 CIF Championship basketball team. Dave played many positions on the baseball team most notably a center fielder where he was a member of the 1961 CIF Championship team. Dave was proud to have been coached by and maintained a lifelong friendship with “Coach C” Lou Cvijanovich. He continued his baseball career playing for the Oxnard Yankees, a semi-pro team that played throughout the southland.
Dave enjoyed bicycle riding and often went on extended rides over several miles. A favorite destination was to the beach to watch a beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Dave was a Veteran having proudly served in the U.S. ARMY as a chaplains assistant, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, He achieved the rank of Specialist 5.
After completing his military service, Dave worked for several years as an inspector with the Ventura County Department of Weights and Measures. After an early retirement, Dave enjoyed a simpler life, helping to care for his parents and brother and cultivate friendships including coffee with “The Group” and dinners enjoyed with dear friends.
A devout Catholic, Dave started each day by attending morning mass at various parishes throughout Ventura County. He truly lived the word of God and teachings of Jesus Christ. Dave treated every person he met with honor, dignity and respect. Dave selflessly dedicated many years of his life to the care of his brother Bill.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Zella Laubacher and brother William (Bill) Laubacher.
As a member of the Laubacher family, Dave was related to half of the community of Oxnard; and friends with the other half!
He will be sorely missed by numerous cousins and friends.
Recitation of a Most Holy Rosary will precede the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. at Santa Clara Catholic Church 323 S. E Street Oxnard, CA 93030. Burial with full Military Honors, immediately following at Santa Clara Cemetery, 2370 N. H Street Oxnard, CA 93036.
