McDonough, Kathleen Reen "Kay" of Dedham, 88, died peacefully on November 28, 2021 surrounded by the love of her family and dear friends. Beloved wife of Edward J. predeceased in July, 1983. Daughter of the late Timothy J. and Kathleen (Brown) Reen. Loving mother of Kathleen Trabucco (Robert) of Needham, Eileen Kiley of Dedham, Edward of Plymouth, Nyal (Lisa) of Dedham,Christine McDonough (Len Calandrella) of Norwich, VT, Thomas (Lisa) of Walpole, and Timothy of Dedham. Devoted grandmother of Stephen, Kevin and Lauren Trabucco, Kerry Byrne (Patrick), Katelyn McCall-Kiley (Kristin), Bryan and Michael McDonough, Emily and Julie Calandrella, Ryan, Conor and Liam McDonough. Loving great-grandmother to Kiley and Keira Byrne and Myles McCall-Kiley. She is also survived by her sisters Mary McMahon of Milton and Gertrude Reen of Jamaica Plain and her beloved nieces and nephews. Sister of the late Eileen McDonough, Rita Connolly, Jeremiah and John Reen.
Kay was born in Boston and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School. She worked for the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company before marrying Ed, the love of her life. She was a pianist and loved music of all kinds, regularly singing with her friends around the piano. She was a beautiful dancer. She enjoyed Irish step dancing and waltzing with her beloved Ed. She appreciated a sharp wit, a sense of humor and a story well told. A successful entrepreneur, she founded McDonough–McCarthy Real Estate, Inc in Dedham contributing to the business community and serving her clients with passion and care. She and Ed gave their children the gift of summers at the ocean, learning to love all the joys of the sea. An avid gardener, flowers bloomed all season. Family milestones were important to Kay. She celebrated the accomplishments, joys, and births as the matriarch of a family she so loved.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 420 High St., Dedham at 9am on Saturday, December 4. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment in St Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pat Roche Hospice Home, NVNA and Hospice, 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061. Her family is grateful for the tender care provided by the exceptional staff of the Pat Roche Hospice Home, Hingham, MA.
