Obituary

George Washington Chambless, 87, of Adel passed away November 28, 2021, at Cook Medical Center in Adel. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2021, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Raiford Walker officiating. Mr. Chambless will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Leonard Chambless, LaDon Chambless, Dustin Cooper, Jamie Sellars, Ches Chambless and Tommy Willis will serve as pallbearers.

Born September 13, 1934, in Winfield, Alabama, Mr. Chambless was the son of the late Oscar Chambless and Lonie Beasley Chambless. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Joyce Chambless; four brothers, R. D. Chambless, L. J. Chambless, Ray Chambless and Robert Chambless; and three sisters, Artelia Taylor, Hattie McBrayer and Mary Sue Taylor. He had been employed with Avondale Mills, J. P. Stevens and retired from the University of Georgia Experiment Station.

Mr. Chambless is survived by his wife, Sarah “Virginia” Withers Chambless of Adel; one son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Patricia Chambless of Adel; one brother, Carlton Chambless of Palatka, Florida; one sister, Sarah Welch of Tifton; two grandchildren and their spouses, Clint and Heather Chambless and Cathy and Matt Carter; one great-grandchild, Raylan Carter; and a sister-in-law, Velma Withers Scott of Tifton.
