Obituary

George S. Morgan, age 84, of Mt. Juliet, TN, formerly of Woburn, MA passed away on November 26, 2021 following a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease. George was born on December 26, 1936, St. Stephen’s Day, in the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was the devoted son of the late Joseph Teves Morgan and Maria Beatriz (Freire) Morgan originally from San Miguel, The Azores, Portugal. He was the beloved husband to Margaret Agnes (Tombari) Morgan prior to her passing in 2001. He was the loving father of Michael G. Morgan and his wife Elizabeth, and doting Pop Pop to his only grandson, Sean all of Hermitage, TN. George was the cherished father to Shirley F. Morgan and her husband Neal M. Price of Plymouth, MA.

George had a lifelong interest in learning, always reading and specifically enjoyed history texts. He valued travel, good food and classic films. He was a devout Catholic and extremely generous in spirit. His sarcastic humor always brought joy to those who loved him and knew him best.

George graduated from Cambridge Rindge Technical School in 1954 and immediately entered the workforce as a draftsman by trade for Bethlehem Steel Incorporated. In later years, he worked for Barker Steel Company in the engineering department. His work ethic throughout his many years was evident and he was proud to have contributed to a number of construction projects throughout New England, most recently a variety of Big Dig contracts and the Deer Island Treatment Plant, an effort to clean up Boston Harbor.

After retirement and the loss of his wife, George relocated to The Villages, FL in 2002 to continue with the next chapter of his life. During these years, he met a wonderful group of friends that encouraged him to try a variety of new endeavors. George became an avid golfer, captain of his softball team, enrolled in several language classes, learned to paint, even tried ballroom dancing. He truly enjoyed these days.

As his health declined, he continued to show strength and bravery in the face of adversity. His diagnosis was a challenging one but he did his best to remain humorous and as positive as possible under the circumstances. He will forever remain in our hearts.

The family would like to extend their gratitude for the care that he received at the Maristone at Providence Assisted Living Facility in Mt. Juliet, TN. The medical and support staff were both skillful and compassionate in helping our dad through the last years of his life.
Services will be private at the request of the family, burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Winchester, Massachusetts on Thursday, December 2, 2021. Arrangements entrusted to the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Service of Woburn.
