August M. Ribeiro, Jr., age 91, of Norton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at The Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley A. (Wellman) Ribeiro, who died on August 24, 2001.
Born in Taunton, MA on July 8, 1930, he was a loving son of the late Augusto M. and Antonia R. (Serras) Ribeiro.
Augie grew up and was educated in Norton schools and during the Korean War, he honorably served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Ribeiro was the owner of the former Ribeiro’s Restaurant in Norton and along with his family, was a co-owner of the former Country Haven Nursing Home in Norton, the former Sharon Manor Nursing Home in Sharon and the former Frates Dairy, a landmark on the Norton Reservoir.
Augie’s family was truly the essence of his life and he especially treasured the times spent and memories created with his grandson. He was a talented builder and was ever-so-proud of the custom home he built in Belmont, NH. He received so much pleasure in helping others with their home projects as well and also enjoyed fishing, gardening and golfing.
He is survived by his devoted children: Stephen M. Ribeiro and his wife Ann of Norton, Brenda A. Ribeiro of Norton and Diane E. Furtado and her husband Steven of Norton. He was the cherished and adoring grandfather of Tyler Furtado of Norton. He was the brother of John Ribeiro and his wife Hilda of Norton and the late Manuel Ribeiro, who is survived by his wife Mary of Wareham. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, December 1st from 11:00 A.M.-12:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 12:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Norton Common Cemetery in Norton.
In lieu of flowers, August’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Hope Health Hospice Center, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
