Porter, Maine – Gerald “Jerry Mac” MacIntosh, age 77, passed away on November 22nd, 2021, at home with his wife Barbara holding his hand. He battled cancer and in his last days wanted to be home and pass peacefully with his wife by his side. Fortunately, he was able to say goodbye to his family and close friends.
Jerry grew up in Melrose Massachusetts and moved to Newburyport in his 20’s which was scheduled for Urban Renewal which would tear down many of the historic houses and buildings. He and his wife fought against the urban renewal and he restored more than 20 historic houses and barns in the Newburyport area. He attended Medford Vocational Technical Institute with a specialty in Cabinet making and the Franklin Institute in Boston. He then went to the Union Carpentry School in Boston. He was a master cabinet maker and many have said how they enjoyed his antique reproductions. He worked all his life self-employed. He borrowed $10,000 from his father to buy a historic house who asked him “Why would you want to move to the jumping off place of the universe?” In 1970, Newburyport was unlike the Newburyport of today. Jerry was known in Newburyport for his reproduction antique furniture and often referred to as being “the oldest teenager in Newburyport”’
An avid sailor, he would bring his beloved “Dutch Treat” to the dock on Wednesday in Newburyport and the first 10 people in line could go out for an afternoon sail. He was also fond of his Harley and wouldn’t hesitate to ride along on the many benefit rides for charity. He also owned many antique cars and hopped up cars which he would run at Sanford dragway.
He had a fondness for the Grog and the Sunday night blues with Parker Wheeler. Loved to dance and listen to the blues. Redesigned the downstairs bar and many other projects that Richard Simkins needed done. When he met a Maine girl Barbara in 1998 that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, he decided that the Grog would be the perfect place to marry her. Parker pulled the band together and the rest is history.
Jerry and Barbara retired in 2018 and went for a long search for an Antique Cape in New England to restore. They found a home in Porter, Maine that Jerry restored to its original glory. They have resided in the house of their dreams until his death.
Jerry is predeceased by his parents, Dana and Phyllis MacIntosh and his nephew Craig Patick of Melrose, Massachusetts. Jerry is survived by his spouse, Barbara MacIntosh, siblings Edward MacIntosh and his wife Karen, sister Joyce Patick and her husband Wayne, children Chris MacIntosh and his wife Jill, Jeff MacIntosh and his wife Jen, Matt MacIntosh and his wife Tally-Anne, Amanda Roberts and her husband Matt, Shawn Matile and his wife Bridget and many grandchildren, Andrew, Annabelle, Adeline, Abigail, Sam, Emma, Kadence and Kegan and nephew Nathan Macintosh and his wife Pam and niece Kendra Patick.
