Obituary

Mary Louise Guarente, of Wellesley, MA and formerly of Weston, MA, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2021, at home surrounded by the love of her devoted family. Mary was the oldest of nine children of the late Dennis and Margaret Callahan and was born and raised in Arlington, MA. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years William E Guarente, beloved mother of daughter Ann Hunter and husband William Hunter of Sudbury, MA and their daughter Mary, son Mark Guarente and wife Mary Guarente of Wellesley, MA, and their children Meg, Kristin, Lauren, Sarah and William, Elizabeth and her husband Owen Dugan of Wellesley, MA and their four children Katherine, Caroline, Owen and Liam and grandchildren Connor, Dylan and Riley Cummings, son Brian Guarente of Natick, MA, Thomas and his wife Andrea Guarente of Natick, MA, and their son Ben and daughter Lisa and her husband Scott Hilinski and their children Scott, John, Callie and Isabelle and sister of Margaret Callahan, Noreen Cronin, Denis Callahan, Kathleen Grannan, Christine Shanley, and the late Ann Tibbetts, Eileen Perini and John Callahan.

Mary dedicated her life to raising her family. She was truly loved by all. She welcomed friends and family to share her gift of fine cooking and entertaining. Her greatest joy was time spent with family and grandchildren. Mary enjoyed sharing her passion for travel and sport with her family including skiing, golf, tennis and hiking. She was also a gifted painter and an avid reader.

Mary’s family would like to extend their appreciation to the aides and staff of Embrace for the care and compassion shown to her and her family for the past 18 months.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley, MA on Sunday, Nov. 28 from 3:00-6:00PM. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Julia’s Church, 374 Boston Post Rd., Weston, MA on Monday, Nov. 29 at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery, Weston, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to and the National Spinal Cord Injury Association, (www.spinalcord.org) and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund P.O. Box 849168 Boston, MA 02284-9168.
