Elvin “Dewayne” Terry , age 64, passed away at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham, MA on November 4, 2021. Dewayne was born on February 5, 1957 in St Louis, MO and grew up in Granite City, IL. He is the son of the late Elvin (Red) Terry and Ivline (Evans) Terry.
He graduated in 1975 from Granite City High School in Granite City, IL where he excelled in distance running and once held the mile record. He currently holds a spot on the Wall of Fame at the high school for lifetime achievements. He briefly attended SIU in Edwardsville, IL.
He started his career as a shoe model maker under the apprenticeship of his uncle Ben Evans at San Antonio Shoe in San Antonio, TX. He started his career at YIN HWA USA in Canton, MA in 2003 where he was the head model maker for 18 years. He respected and was respected by all those he worked with in the shoe industry.
He loved his race car. He and his dad spent a lot of time at the racetrack. They were mechanics and he was the driver. He also enjoyed fishing and deer watching.
He is survived by his mother Ivie Terry of Granite City, IL, sister – Elaine (Terry) Logue (Steve) of Granite City, IL , nephew – Ethan Buck (Tina) of Granite City, IL , niece – Kynda Buck of Collinsville, IL, great nieces – Elzie, Evelyn, and Vivian Buck, great nephews – Emmitt and Wyatt Bilyeu.
He was preceded in death by his father Elvin J (Red) Terry.
Memorial service will be held at Collinsville Church of Christ, 1400 Troy Rd, Collinsville, IL 62234 on Saturday, November 27, 2021. Visitation will be at 4:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 5:00 pm.
