Obituary

CHICOPEE – Adelard E. Jodoin, Jr., 96, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, November 18, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on June 2, 1925, a beloved son of the late Adelard Jodoin and Orianne (Lussier) Jodoin. He was raised in the Willimansett section of Chicopee, graduated from the Holyoke Evening Trade High School and was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II with the Company F 351st Infantry Regiment and attained the rank of Private. He served in the battles of Rome Arno, North Appennines and the PoValley. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal and Three Bronze Service Stars. He was an entrepreneur and the founder of A.E. Jodoin Drywall, Inc. and Westover Building Supply in Chicopee. He was a communicant of the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Willimansett and a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. During his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling to Naples, Florida, Saint Thomas and Italy. He also enjoyed hunting, building models, tending to his orchids and cacti, racing pigeons and perfecting the art of stained glass. Whatever he did, Adelard completely immersed himself in the project. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and love of his life, Fidelis A. “Fi” (Courchesne) Jodoin who was Called Home on March 8, 2010. They were married on July 3, 1943 at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Willimansett and were blessed with over 66 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving children, Adelard E. “Skip” Jodoin III and his wife, Margaret, of South Hadley and Denise J. Smith and her partner, Craig Norton, of Cheshire, CT; his loving son in law, Michael K. Daley and his partner, Karen Pardee, of Turners Falls; his six cherished grandchildren, Emily and Amanda Jodoin, Nicole Brackett and her husband, Kristofer, Renee Theroux, Adrian Smith and Tyler Smith; his five cherished great grandchildren, Luc, Lilah, Colette, Mason and Landon; his brother in law, Bernie Sobotor; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased his loving daughter, Susan C. Daley who was Called Home on September 1, 2008; his cherished grandson, Thomas N. Theroux, Jr. who was Called Home on September 1, 2009; his dear brother, Omer Jodoin and his wife, Jean; and his five dear sisters, Shirley Shaw and her husband, John, Edna Morin and her husband, Joseph, Rose Batorski Sobotor and her husband, Fred Batorksi, Jeannette Frazier and her husband, Bill, and Irene Ormerod and her husband, Lester. His Funeral will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, November 26, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Masks are recommended for his services.
