Mildred J. Underdue “Jackie”, age 70, of Bridgewater, formerly of Brockton and Boston, passed away on Tuesday morning, November 16, 2021, at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Mansell G. and Audrey L. (Johnson) Earl.
She was a graduate of the Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Boston. She completed her undergraduate degree at UMASS Amherst and a master’s degree in Special Education at Boston State College. Jackie worked at The English High School in Boston and she finished her career at Falmouth High School before retiring to become a caretaker for her granddaughter. She was a member of the Boston Teachers Union for over 25 years. Education was very important to Jackie; she was proud to touch the lives of many young people and inspire them to follow their dreams.
Jackie was devoted to her family. She was an integral part of the lives of her daughter and granddaughter and their extended network of friends, some of whom were like family to her. She was extremely generous and took care of all of her siblings. Jackie had a beautiful smile, an infectious laugh, and a natural curiosity about other people. She was an amazing listener who gave great advice. She loved taking care of others. She was outgoing and friendly and never met a stranger. Her granddaughter was her pride and joy and her job as a ‘Granny Nanny’ was what she cherished most. She was a regular attendee at various local libraries for Story Time for many years and was a dedicated planner and participant of playdates and adventures. Some of her interests included traveling, cooking for family and friends, and going on long scenic drives.
Jackie leaves her loving daughter, LaShawn J. Underdue, of Bridgewater; her only granddaughter, Isa J. Underdue; siblings, Donald “Gene” Earl (Claudette), of Holbrook, Foster R. Earl, of Boston, Phyllis Howard (Willie), of Atlanta, GA, Renita Earl Elliott, of Boston, and Andrea Della-Giustina (Dan), of Gardner; as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends. She was the sister of the late Mansell J. Curry and Oscar A. Earl.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to visit with Jackie’s family on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, from 9:00 to 11:00 am, in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton. Interment will follow in Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree.
