Robert K. Alves, age 59, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital, after being stricken ill at home. He was the beloved husband of Merritt J. (Herdrich) Alves, to whom he was wed on May 16, 2001.
Born in Aiken, South Carolina on October 3, 1962, he was a loving son of Gloria J. (Collins) Alves of Norton and the late Robert D. Alves.
Bobby grew up in Norton, was a 1980 graduate of Norton High School and a 1984 graduate of Southern Vermont University. For over the past ten years, he worked as a National Salesman for Pierce Aluminum in Franklin and was previously employed as Police Officer for the Town of Raynham.
Bob’s family and many lifelong friends were truly the focal point of his life. Throughout the years, he was a big part of children’s life, coaching Norton Pop Warner Football, as a Norton High School Football Coach and also as a Bishop Feehan High School Football Coach.
Bobby and his wife Merritt enjoyed traveling extensively and he was very proud of his affiliation with the Masonic Lodge. He loved the holidays, especially playing Santa Claus and annual family Thanksgiving Day football games in his backyard, where he always had the “homefield” advantage. Bobby was also an avid woodworker and received so much pleasure sharing his creations with others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his devoted children Christina Martin and her husband Robert of Framingham, Nicholas Schwieger and his wife Marina of Hermosa Beach, CA, Teddy Schwieger and his fiancé Nicole of Plymouth, Zachary Schwieger and his longtime girlfriend Michelle of Providence and Spencer Schwieger and his longtime girlfriend Alexis of Norton. He was the dear brother of Debbie Aaronson of Norton and is also survived by his loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, November 22nd from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton.
A service in celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, November 23rd at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
