Rosamond “Roz” (Sweet) Marshalek, 82, of South Dartmouth, passed away Tuesday,
November 16, 2021 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Stephen Marshalek and daughter of the late Orville and Catherine (Como) Sweet.
A lifelong resident of the Greater New Bedford area, Roz met the love of her life and future husband Steve while waitressing during high school at Grover’s Restaurant in New Bedford. Through hard work, the couple eventually fulfilled their dream of owning their own restaurant when they opened Steve’s Coffee Shop in the downtown area. This began a forty-year journey in the industry which included local favorites Kate Cory Galley and Kate Cory’s Restaurant at Bittersweet Farm in Westport and culminating with Bittersweet Café in Dartmouth.
Roz was a gifted decorator, designer, and gardener whose talents were sought out by many brides and others seeking to plan special events. In her later years, she enjoyed servicing the students at Dartmouth High School and developing even more meaningful friendships that she cherished.
A devoted lover of all animals, Roz especially enjoyed raising and caring for her pet cow and lamb, Gretchen and Jenny.
Roz is survived by her son Stephen Marshalek and his wife Maura; her three grandchildren Ben, Abby and Owen; her six siblings, David Sweet, Gordon Sweet, Wayne Sweet, Donald Sweet, Mark Sweet and Marguerite (Sweet) Kane, along with many nieces and nephews.
