Joanne (Bourke) Landon, wife of the late Roy A. Landon; daughter of the late Wilfred and Ruth (Green) Bourke, sister of the late Francine (Bourke) Carlo.
Mother of Kathleen Brown, Colleen (Cailin) O’Toole, Linda Teebagy, Edward O’Toole Jr.; stepmother to the late Rita Larue, Richard Landon, Roy Landon, & Rhonda Mallard. Joanne had 15 grandchildren and the number of great grandchildren continues to grow!
Joanne loved her Orthodox faith and her church community at St. Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church in Cambridge. She believed that everyone could be a friend; she was always kind, embarrassing her children by walking up to stranger to give them a compliment. Joanne enjoyed learning about other peoples and cultures through her work at the Window Shop in Harvard Square, making friends with customers when working as a bank teller or simply inviting a single diner to join her table.
Joanne’s lifelong creativity was expressed through her sewing and crafting. She was “repurposing” before it became an internet sensation; whether by converting old clothes or makeup bags into pocketbooks or turning old tables into works of art. Joanne loved games; she was a Scrabble enthusiast and the family champion; she enjoyed Bingo, and especially enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, many of whom have special memories of card games at the Cape.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Graveside Service that will be held Monday, November 22nd, at 11:00 a.m. in the Woodbrook Cemetery, 100 Salem Street, Woburn.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Orthodox Church, 8 Inman St, Cambridge MA 02139 or St. Jude’s Hospital for Children (www.stjude.org)
