It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ernest M. “Ernie”, “Butch”Huston, Jr. age 74 of Brockton, died Sunday November 14, 2021 at home surrounded by family after a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband for 51 years of Mary A. (Mehl) Huston. Ernie was born and raised in Brockton, the son of the late Irene (Porta) and Ernest Huston, Sr. and remained a lifelong resident of the city.
Ernie was a 1964 graduate of Brockton High School where he was a member of the football and track teams. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served during the Vietnam Era where he was a qualified sharpshooter. For over 34 years Ernie worked at the Shaw’s distribution center in East Bridgewater and was an active member of the UFCW Local 791.
Upon his retirement in 2000, he spent much of his time traveling the National Parks out west and relaxing in sunny San Diego with family and friends. Ernie loved camping, hunting and fishing and especially family vacations at McMenamy's cottage on East Sandwich beach -“the good old days”. He also enjoyed coaching little league baseball and basketball teams.
Ernie will be remembered as a true friend to all that knew him and was proud of his accomplishments in life. Most importantly, Ernie loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Ernie was the loving father of Sean Huston of San Diego, CA and Melissa “Missy”Huston-Halliday and her husband Keith of Brockton and grandfather of Ella and Lily Huston and his grand fur-babies, Tony, Tiny & Sissy. He is also survived by his dear sister Denise Ellis of Foley, Alabama, his beloved Brother in laws- Fred, Wally and Bill Mehl and their families and sister-in laws Barbara Deveney and the late Pat Charbonneau and many nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St., (Rte. 123) Brockton on Sunday November 21, 2021 from 3-6pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30am for a funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Church at 10:30am. Burial will be at a later date.
