WILLIAM RICHARD HURD

William (Bill) Hurd, 78, of Bournedale, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Katharine (Anderson) Hurd, his devoted daughters, Stephanie (Hurd) Wilcox of Holly Springs, North Carolina and Jennifer (Hurd) Lyman of South Burlington, Vermont, as well as his sons-in-law, Andy Wilcox and Brock Lyman, and his adoring grandsons, Benjamin Wilcox, Nicholas Wilcox, and Abraham Lyman. Bill also leaves his wonderful brothers, John Hurd of Merida, Mexico and Doug Hurd of Marblehead, Massachusetts, as well as his sisters-in-law, Lyn Hurd and Donna Hurd, and a gaggle of nieces, a sprinkle of nephews, and many amazing friends that he considered family. Bill was predeceased by his parents, William Hurd and Shirley (Kaulback) Hurd, and sadly, his brother, Dick Hurd.
Bill will be remembered for his quick wit, his unending charm, and his herculean strength against unimaginable odds. He had a warm smile and a tight embrace for everyone he knew or met. Bill donned a daily red tie as an IBM lifer, his career there spanning more than 30 years. He was a tinkerer, a builder, a traveler, a fisherman, a skier, a creative chef, and a card shark with a penchant for socializing with friends and family. Some may say that his second career was educating the medical community on the power of a positive mindset on healing and recovery, while still allowing for complaints about the food. Above all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and son.
Wherever he is now, we know for sure that if we ask him how he is he will provide his famous answer, “I’m Perfect”. And he was.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bill’s memory to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.
A celebration of a life well-lived will be held at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church-on-the-Canal, 165 Main Street, Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 11:00am, with family visitation beforehand at 10:00am. All are welcome.
