Raymond A. Sawyer, 84, of Provincetown passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 10, 2021.
Born in Provincetown to the late Edgar F. and Mary (Avila) Sawyer on June 21,1937, he attended Provincetown Vocational School.
Raymond loved working with his hands. He did carpentry, but was primarily a stone mason for most of his life. Upon retiring, he volunteered at the Council on Aging and did deliveries for the ‘Meals on Wheels’ program.
Fishing and traveling were his favorite activities, but above all, he loved spending time with his family.
He will always be remembered for his quick wit and kindness and willingness to help anyone. When his children were growing up, you could find him outdoors teaching someone to ride a bike or helping to organize a football game with the neighborhood kids.
He is survived by his wife Marlene Sawyer of Provincetown, son Michael Canterbury, daughters Laura Parker and Shannon Sawyer Patrick, and a sister, Roberta McKay. Grandchildren Shelby and Emma Canterbury, Nicolas and Eli Patrick also survive him. He was predeceased by his siblings, Edie, Edgar Jr, Carl and Shirley.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday November23rd, at the Gately Funeral Home, 94 Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday November 24th at St Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St. Provincetown. Burial will follow in St Peters Cemetery.
