Obituary

CHARLTON: Gregg M. Szalay,49, of Charlton, died Saturday, Nov. 13 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after a brief illness.
He leaves his brother Glenn Szalay and his wife Lori of Auburn, three nephews; Zachary T. Szalay and his wife Emma of Lugoff, SC, Matthew V. Szalay of North Pole, Alaska and Cameron J. Szalay of Auburn, a great niece Aubrey, his companion Karyn E. Riopel of Charlton. Gregg joined his longtime faithful canine companion Reesey who passed away on Monday, November 15th they will remain together forever.
Gregg was born in Worcester, son of Geza and Judith (Warren) Szalay and was proud of his Hungarian heritage. He graduated from Bay Path Regional Vocational High School and was a volunteer baseball coach at Bay Path for several years. He owned and operated GMS Builders and Hot Shot mobile cafe. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Heritage Country Club in Charlton. He enjoyed all Boston sports teams, fantasy football and a good political debate.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, November 18 at 10:00 AM in Greenville Baptist Church, 684 Pleasant Street, Rochdale. Burial will follow in Greenville Baptist Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, November 17th from 4:00-7:00 PM in MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main street, Leicester. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Charlton Helping Hand Society Inc., 81 Hammond Hill Road, Charlton, MA 01507.
