Obituary

WEBSTER – Sophie Kattori, 95, died Thursday, November 11, 2021 in the Life Care Center of Auburn after a period of declining health.

Although aunt Sophie had no children of her own, she devoted her life to being a mother to many of her nieces and nephews whom she helped raise. She was preceded in death by her three brothers John, James and George, by her sisters Helen Petrelli, Viola Hultquist and her husband Ken, by her nephews Kenneth Petrelli and David Hultquist, by her niece Sandra Petrelli, by her lifelong long friends Stasia Murzycki and Francis Napierata. She leaves a sister in-law, Barbara; nieces, Deb and her husband Randy, Laura and her husband Bruce, Laurie and her husband Billie, Diana, BJ, and Kristina; nephews, George, Dino, John, Kevin and his wife Jen, grand-nephews, Randy, Scott, Joshua, Bryan and his wife Jackie, and Mike and his fiancée Sara; grand-nieces, Kristen Brochu and her husband David, Lauren Croteau and her partner Mike, and, her last great joy, Jehna; great grand-nieces, Kylie and Lucy; great grand-nephews, Caleb and Noah.

She was born in Quinebaug, Connecticut on June 6, 1926, a daughter of Spiro and Laura (Petri) Kattori and lived in Webster most of her life. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1944.

Miss Kattori was a stitcher with Ethan Allen in Dudley for over 30 years working next to a best friend Stasia. She retired in 1991.

She was a member of Saint Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church in Southbridge. Her father helped build the church and her mother attended regularly.

She was a selfless human being putting family needs before hers. Whether it was making sure her brother John had good clothes to progress himself or helping when a family member needed it, she always supported them. She adored her parents and loved her siblings. It was the joy of her nieces and nephews where she was the happiest. She would take them on her vacations with Viola and Ken every year. She taught them songs, showered them with love, and introduced the world as any mother would to her own children. She also enjoyed shopping for hours with her best friend Stasia. She was an avid fan of the Celtics, Yankees, Patriots, and North Carolina. She especially loved Michael Jordan, watching taped games well past his retirement. She loved feeding birds and just watching the traffic go by her home.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the Life Care Center of Auburn and New England Hospice, especially Yessenia and Jessica for wonderful and thoughtful care.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster. Donations in her memory may be made to Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church, 34 Gold Street, Shrewsbury, MA, 01545-6238.
