Michael J. Dion, age 60 passed away on November 10, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born on January 19, 1961 in Northampton, MA, a son of Harvey Dion of Florida and Marlene (Mutter) Mchugh of Chicopee. Michael was a graduate of Chicopee Comprehensive High School, Class of 1979 and received his Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Holyoke Community College. Michael was the Chicopee Police Department’s Senior Patrolman Detective “Badge 1.” He protected the City of Chicopee with distinction and honor as the current longest serving member in his 39th year of service. Mike first served as a patrol officer and then as a detective for more than 20 years. He has attained numerous accolades for his work. Detective Dion is also the CPD liaison to the ABCC, Chicopee Fire Prevention and Chicopee Health and Building departments and was the code enforcement officer representing the police department. Detective Dion investigated numerous homicide cases, human trafficking cases and was directly involved in high profile felony arrests. Detective Dion also assisted numerous city agencies with Code Enforcement.
Michael is survived by his parents, his beloved daughter Makenzie Dion and her fiancé Jeremy Woods of Chicopee; two sisters, Judi Dion and her significant other Scott Rielly of Hopkinton and Debbie Dion and her significant other Tom Morse of Chicopee; his devoted girlfriend Jacquelyn Howe of Chicopee; three uncles, Gary Dion, Stephen Graves and Robert Graves, along with his niece Jennifer Krstyen, nephew Matthew and his husband Michael Krstyen-McElhone, and his loyal dog Indy. The entire family noted his dear “Kenzy” was his heart and life who he dedicated all his hard work to. He played hockey and softball with many friends. Mike loved being a police officer, his blue family, the Red Sox, the Bruins, his pool, barbequing, 80’s music, root beer soda and driving his “Monster truck.” Mike liked to spend time at the ocean, getting his picture taken, playing video games and above all spending time with family, friends, his dog, and especially “Kenzy.” Michael was a “straight shooter” and an extremely hard worker who would tell others “Don’t worry ‘Bout it.”
Mike is known as “The Inspector”, “Zion” and “Super Star”. He is loved by so many and will be missed greatly. Rest easy Detective Dion, “We have the watch from here” and “Don’t worry ‘Bout it.” ~Wuzn Me~
Detective Michael Dion continues his life of Service as an Organ Donor. Mike’s family was notified that his organs have been placed and have saved the lives of three people. His gift of organ donation will continue to help others.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at Chicopee Comprehensive High School, 617 Montgomery St, Chicopee MA.
