Lia G. (Goncalves) Mello, 77, of Westport, peacefully passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Brigham & Women's Hospital with her family by her side. She was the wife of John J. Mello.
Mrs. Mello was born in Arrifes, Portugal daughter of the late Joao and Maria Clara (Teixeira) Goncalves and had resided in Westport for 30 years. She was a member of Christ the Rock Church, Fall River and an active participant in the Portuguese Women's Group. She enjoyed traveling with her husband especially to her beloved homeland Portugal. Mrs. Mello devoted her entire life to her family and will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors along with her husband include her 2 sons: David Mello and his wife Lucy of Westport and Paul Mello and his wife Luciane of Westport; a brother: Joao Goncalves of Portugal; sister: Rosa Maria Furtado of Portugal; 4 grandchildren: David J. Mello, Bethany Brooke Mello, Sarah Kristen Mello and Ariel Mariah Mello; a great grandson: Ezra Molina; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late David Goncalves of Lisbon, Portugal and Paul Goncalves of New Bedford.
Funeral service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the Potter Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-7 P.M.
Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
