Obituary

WAYLAND: Deborah Harvey Jones, 90, died peacefully with her husband by her side on November 8, 2021, at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Boston on April 24, 1931, the daughter of the late Joel D. Harvey and Elizabeth (Freeman) Harvey.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years Christopher Peter Jones of Wayland. She was the mother of Elizabeth Jones Hemenway of Chicago, IL; Sarah Jones Stiff (Michael) of Bozeman, MT; Griffith Jones (Roynan) of Black Mountain, NC; and Christopher C. Jones of Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four nieces, and three nephews.
A long-time resident of Wayland, Deborah also spent many summers in Duxbury, which she held very close to her heart. She was a graduate of the Brimmer and May School and Smith College. As a young woman she worked for the New York State Housing Authority and AT&T in New York City, where she met her future husband.
Deborah was an active volunteer and served on the vestry of her church, on the board of Brimmer and May, and as president of the Wayland Depot. She enjoyed many activities, including playing tennis, singing in the church choir, gardening, and reading. She traveled extensively and frequently gathered with family for holidays and reunions.
A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at St Anne’s in the Fields Episcopal Church in Lincoln at a later date and time to be announced.
Interment will be private in the Jones family lot in North Cemetery, Wayland.
