Obituary

Albert "Stooch" Silva, Jr., 63, of New Bedford passed away suddenly on Thursday November 4, 2021.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Albert "Smokey" and Dorothy (Rose) Silva, he lived in New Bedford all of his life. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School ('76) and UMass Dartmouth (aka SMU, '81).

Stooch was employed as a Teacher/Paraprofessional with the New Bedford Public Schools for 34 years until his retirement in 2018.

An avid sports fan, he had played Little League, Teener League, and High School (Football & Baseball) sports in his youth. He had also coached in the Teener League with Coach Manny Lima. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the New Bedford High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee.

He was a very creative individual who enjoyed gardening/landscaping, drawing, and furniture building, refinishing, and restoration. He was also a huge fan of jazz music and collector of musical instruments.

He is survived by his siblings, Jacqueline Silva McKinney and her partner Charles Planter and Michael L. "Lucky" Silva plus his Goddaughter, Kayli Medeiros; and numerous cousins and friends.

His visitation will be held on Monday November 15, 2021 from 3-7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with a Prayer Service to be held at 6 PM. A burial service will be held at a later date.
