Florence M. Silva, 95, of Somerville, MA died November 5, 2021 in Everett, MA. She was born in Somerville, MA on May 1, 1926, the daughter of the late Gust and Mary (King) Wicks. Florence was a resident of Tewksbury, MA for 40 years, later residing in Jaffrey and Londonderry, NH. She was a retired nurse’s aide from Tewksbury Hospital. Florence was very active in sports while at Somerville High and in her younger years, she enjoyed walking, candlepin bowling and swimming at her pool in Tewksbury. She later became an avid reader and enjoyed crafts, traveling, lunch bunch, supper club, and sewing. Florence became an active member of Londonderry’s Senior Citizen Center and Elder Affairs Committee, sang with the 3Gs chorus, took part in Senior Friends, and volunteered at the Parkland Medical Center, where she received the 2004 Volunteer Frist Humanitarian Award. “Flo” loved laughter and adventure, including working on her bucket list as a Senior.
Florence leaves her son, Russell G. Silva and his wife Janet Nolan of Thornton, NH; her daughter, Cheryl Blake and her husband Richard of Wilton, NH; her granddaughter, Melanie (Silva) Foley and her husband Donny of Wakefield, MA; two great-grandchildren, Donald John “DJ” Foley, and William Foley, as well as many nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by her loving husband, George J. Silva who passed in 1968, and by her siblings, Gus, Artie, Sammy and Annie.
Following cremation, a graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 16th at 11:30am in the Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East St., Tewksbury, MA. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry are assisting the family.
