Obituary

Robert A. Andrade, Sr., 85, of Fairhaven, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on October 2, 1936, he was the son of the late Hilda (Offley) Williams and Antone Andrade. He was predeceased by his wife Gunda (Schornhauser) Andrade and his son Richard W. Andrade, Sr.

Robert is survived by his son Hartmut Andrade and his wife Rene of New Bedford, his son Robert Andrade, Jr. and his fiancée Pamela Green of Dartmouth, his daughter Debra Cromwell of Fairhaven and Lisa Costa of Fairhaven. He is also survived by his brother Joseph Amado of Connecticut, his sister Louise Lammers of New Bedford, twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren. and numerous nephews and nieces.

He loved spending time with his family, motorcycle riding, dancing, bowling and listening to music.

Robert was formerly employed by the New Bedford Police Department for 32 years retiring as Sergeant. He had also been a dedicated employee of the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals for many years, serving as a funeral assistant and apprentice embalmer.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany where he met his loving wife, Gunda. After being redeployed back to the United States, their wartime correspondence continued, and with love at the age of 21 he returned to Germany to bring the love of his life to the United States where they married on December 13, 1958.

They began their life together in New Bedford and raised four children. He endured life’s challenges and sorrows yet shared in the joy and accomplishments of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will never be forgotten and will live in our hearts forever.

His Funeral will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, Fairhaven at 11 AM.
