Cailin Elaine Monahan, 51, of Farnum Pike, Smithfield, died Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI. She was the cherished companion of James Ashton.
Born in Norwell, MA, she was a daughter of Charles O. Monahan of Pembroke, MA, and Cheryl E. (Korec) Monahan. Cailin had lived in Smithfield for the past 15 years.
Cailin was an Inside Sales Representative for Patterson Veterinary Supply, Inc. Prior to this, she was a long-time large and small veterinary technician at multiple emergency clinics and practices throughout New England.
Cailin was a true animal lover and enjoyed caring for her many pets including horses, dogs, cats and pigeons.
She was the former secretary of AKC-affiliated Obedience Training Club of Rhode Island and competed in Rally/Obedience with her collies. She was also a rare breed pigeon judge. Cailin was a former New England Saddle Seat Medal winner as well as a world class saddle seat equestrian, earning her a scholarship to Stevens College in Columbia, Missouri after graduating from Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, MA in 1988.
With her partner Jim, Cailin was an enthusiastic fan of the New England Patriots, attending many home games at Gillette Stadium annually. She was also a country music lover and an avid gardener. Throughout her life, Cailin enjoyed running and completed several marathons as well as local road races.
Besides Jim and her parents, she is survived by her two younger sisters who revered her: Meaghan E. Monahan and her daughter Mary Asuaje of Braintree, MA and Cein E. Monahan of Pembroke, MA. Her extended family includes her treasured cousin, Kara Tedeschi of Hanover, MA and her godmother and aunt, Marie Tedeschi of Norwell, MA, and she is predeceased by her uncle and godfather, Dominic Tedeschi.
Her funeral service will be held Thursday at 9am in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, RI. Burial will follow in Acote’s Hill Cemetery, Chepachet. Visitation will be held Wednesday 4-6pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lucky Horse Equine Rescue, 185 Century Mill Rd, Bolton, MA 01740 where her beloved horses, Prince and Spencer, will be cared for lovingly in her memory.
