Maimu (Seepere) Yllo, 84, of North Attleboro died on Saturday April 15, 2006 with her loving family by her side at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA She was the beloved wife of over 55 years of Walter Yllo.
Born in Tallinn, Estonia on September 13, 1921 she was a loving daughter of the late Voldamar and Elsa (Kingissepp) Seepere.
Educated in Estonia, she began her college education at The Tallinn Technical University and completed her graduate work in Chemistry at The University of Hamburg in Germany. She had worked as an Analytical Chemist at The Dupont Co. in New Jersey for 40 years before retiring.
Maimu was internationally recognized as an Analytical Chemist, specializing in metals and was listed in “The American Men of Science” She was a President of The New Jersey branch of The American Association of University Women. She worked for the passage of The Equal Rights Amendments (ERA). She was a member of the national Abortion Rights Active League. She was a member of The Seabrook Estonian Lutheran Church in New Jersey.
Since retiring, she had become an avid birder and worked with The Cornell University Ornithology Dept. She was also a voracious reader. She had made her home in North Attleboro for the past 8 years and was formerly a resident of Carneys Point, New Jersey.
In addition to her loving husband Walter she is survived by her devoted daughter Kersti Yllo, an Associate provost at Wheaton College and who resides in Providence, R.I. Her dear sister Lia Kotkas of Graham, Washington. Her cherished grandchildren Kai Yllo Schwertner, a senior at Denison University in Ohio and Hillar Yllo Schwertner, a senior at The Moses Brown School in Providence. Her former son-in-law Rick Schwertner, Director of The Pine Croft School in Norton and who resides in North Attleboro.
Private services will be held at the convenience of her family. Visiting hours have been omitted.
