Obituary

Vida Elizabeth Hudson Dix, 92, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Friday, November 5, 2021, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Monday, November 8, 2021, at the Ocilla United Methodist Church in Ocilla, Georgia, with the Rev. Jay Roberson officiating. Interment will follow in the Ocilla Cemetery in Ocilla, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the sanctuary of the church.

Mrs. Dix was born January 7, 1929, in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late Hanson & Irma Vida Harper Hudson. She lived in the community all of her life. During her high school years, she played basketball and in 1948 made the All-State Basketball Team playing as a guard. Thru the years Mrs. Dix helped raise neighborhood children and she worked for the Irwin County School system as a physical education aide. She loved her children and grandchildren. The grandchildren will miss their “MeMa” dearly. Mrs. Dix also worked hard alongside her husband, Bobby and her boys’ growing onions and tomatoes on the Dix Farm. Mrs. Dix enjoyed fishing with her husband and grandchildren in Steinhatchee, Florida. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports and will be remembered as an avid Irwin County Booster Club supporter. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. Mrs. Dix was a dedicated member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for more than 40 years and sang in the choir.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Eddie McKinley Dix & Karen of Ocilla, Robert H. “Robbie” Dix & Indira of Ocilla and Alex Richard Dix & Michelle of Ocilla; grandchildren: Cory M. Dix & Payton, Daniel Dix & Cambria, Beau Dix, Raye Dix Harper & Charlie, Tyler Dix & Casey and Kate Dix; step-grandchildren: Amanda Powell & Nick, Alan Rowe & Lacie, Adam Rowe & Kayla, Kayla Thornton & Robert, Jennifer Smith and Jeremy Smith & Candice; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Hanson “Tuffy” Hudson , Jr. & Jeanette and a sister, Mary Esther Hudson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Horace “Bobby” Dix, Sr.; three brothers: Othella Hudson, Arthur “Buddy” Hudson and Huey Hudson.
