On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, our Hilda Nellie "Licha" Farmer of Oxnard, Ca passed away at the age of 87. She departed peacefully with her family at her side. Hilda was born in Mexicali, MX to Hipolito and Manuela Lerma on May 31, 1934. She was their youngest daughter. Orphaned at the age of five, she and her siblings moved to Ventura, Ca, where their Tío and Tía, Ray and Maxine Garcia, took them in. Hilda started her education at Holy Cross School and was proud to be amongst the first graduating class of Ventura College in 1955 with a nursing degree. During this time Hilda would form a bond with "The Folks," Solomon and Doris Jackson, a connection she would cherish for the remainder of her life. She retired from nursing the 1970's and would go on to be a campus usher for E.O. Green Junior High in Oxnard, Ca. Throughout, she always made herself available for her family.
Hilda is survived by her children; Ron Garcia of Oxnard, Cindy Nigma of Port Hueneme and Gary (Patty) Garcia of Medford, Or; her sister, Charlotte Harris of San Leandro, Ca; her grandchildren Michael, Justin, Linda, Carl, Anthony and five great grandchildren.
She is preceded by her husband, Robert L. Farmer, and her siblings Paul Lerma, Mary King, Socorro Martinez and Lupito Leon.
Hilda was a voracious reader, her favorite time of day was spent with her morning coffee and a newspaper. She loved animals, researching her family history, crossword puzzles, John Wayne and Kevin Costner movies, and was a diehard Dodger fan. She was also a feisty little lady with many layers to her personality and a hundred stories to tell. We will miss her immensely.
Family and friends are invited to visiting hours to be held on Friday evening November 12, 2021 from 4 to 8pm in the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street Ventura. A Most Holy Rosary will be recited in the Funeral Home's Chapel at 7 pm followed by a service of sharing memories and eulogies.
