Eva Guzelian (Soukoian) of Wellesley passed away peacefully on November 2, 2021 at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late Aram Guzelian. Devoted mother of James Guzelian and his wife Deborah, and Melanie Flanagan and her husband Shawn. Loving grandmother of Michael and his wife Kathleen and Jennifer and her husband Vangelis. Cherished great grandmother of Shane and Riley. Loving sister of the late Harriet Marsubian. She is also survived by many dear relatives and close friends.
Eva was born in Shumen, Bulgaria after her family fled from Armenia during the Armenian Genocide. She came to the United States as a young girl and was educated in New York. She was a graduate of Hunter College and Long Island University where she received her Bachelor of Science. She worked as a chemist (MT ASCP) at New England Baptist Hospital for many years. After raising her children, she became a Real Estate Broker in Wellesley until she retired at the age 85.
Eva was proud of her Armenian Heritage and was a former trustee of St. Stephens Armenian Church, member of the St. Stephen’s Ladies Guild and a founding member of the Armenian Renaissance Heritage Chapter.
She was an avid bridge player, a voracious reader, and was always eager to learn new and challenging subjects by taking classes at Wellesley College and Harvard Extension. She especially loved to travel with family and friends, boasting that she had been to over 30 different countries. She was an inspiration to her family and will be sorely missed.
Funeral service will be held at Saint Stephen’s Armenian Church, 38 Elton Avenue, Watertown on Monday, November 8 at 12 noon. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the church from 11:00 – 12 noon, immediately prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Saint Stephen’s Armenian Church.
Interment at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
