Mr. John Pugliares, of Woburn formerly of Winchester and Arlington passed away, Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center of Burlington following a lengthy period of declining health. He was 85. John was the beloved husband for 65 years of Aida (Antoni) Pugliares. Born in Pola, Italy, he was the son of the late Domenic and Giuditta (Cisetti) Pugliares.
John worked for over twenty years as an Airline Executive for both Alitalia and Swiss Air. Following his career with the airlines he owned and operated the Aquarius Travel Agency of Watertown for many years. He was the former President of the Watertown Rotary Club and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award, which is the highest distinction a Rotarian can receive in recognition of his contributions to The Rotary Foundation. In his leisure time he enjoyed spending time on the ocean in his boat, whether he was fishing or just pleasure boating. He was also an avid golfer and loved spending the winter months at his home in Lake Worth, Florida. However, John's greatest joy was his family and nothing made him happier than to be surrounded by those he loved.
In addition to his beloved wife Aida, John is survived by his children, Judy Comita and her husband Andy of Stoneham, and Domenic Pugliares and his wife Serena of Old Orchard Beach, Maine. He was the loving grandfather to Andrew Comita, Amanda Desrochers and her husband Rob, David Comita, Benjamin Pugliares and his wife Emma, and Daniel Pugliares. He was the loving great grandfather of Lorenzo Desrochers, his little ice cream buddy. He is further survived by his sister, Franca Tomei of Billerica and her late husband and his dearest friend Remo Tomei.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, Monday, November 8th, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Mary Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, at 11 a.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
