Obituary

Ronald V. Gobeille, 78, of New Bedford died Wednesday, November 3, 2021 after a long illness.

Born in Acushnet, son of the late Michel and Mary (Mareiro) Gobeille, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

Ronald honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was formerly employed by J.C. Rhodes Company for many years. He was later employed as a teacher at Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School and Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. He was then employed by the New Bedford Park Department until his retirement. In retirement, he opened his own woodworking shop.

Ronald enjoyed going to the Brown Jug, playing golf, fishing, and camping with Joan at Maple Park.

He is survived by his companion of 48 years, Joan Cowen of New Bedford; two step-sons, David Cowen and his wife Christine of Fall River and Chris Cowen and his wife Ruth of Texas; seven step-grandchildren, Mary Dube and Crystal, Alycia, Krisha, Katryna, Isaac, and Rebecca Cowen; his brother, Michael F. Gobeille; two sisters, Theresa Shufelt and Linda Taylor; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor Lopes.

His Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 10 AM in St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish (formerly St. Mary's Church), 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. For online guestbook, visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
