William C. “Bill” Sowell, 95, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, October 30, 2021, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with Bishop Frankie Tyson and the Rev. Josh Bowles officiating.
Mr. Sowell was born September 18, 1926, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late James N. & Mamie Aline Lott Sowell. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Sowell worked for Western Auto and Standard Supply in Fitzgerald, Georgia. He was a member of the Ocilla Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Tyson Sowell of Fitzgerald; step-children: Stanley Culpepper & Kathy of Tallahassee, Florida, Joe Culpepper & Sandy of Fitzgerald, Debra Stone of Cleveland, Tennessee and Bobby Culpepper & Karen of Fitzgerald; and a sister, Mamie Ruth Ellington of Fitzgerald. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean Young Sowell; four brothers: James N. Sowell, Jr., Homer Sowell, John Arthur Sowell, and Bob Sowell and a sister, Lois Adamson.
