Sonia Amadea Satsuk, 87 of Methuen, MA passed away after a brief illness at Cedarview Healthcare.
Sonia was the daughter of the late Anna (Niewierowicz) and Kiprian Satsuk and sister of late Helen West.
Sonia was born in Lawrence and lived most of her life in Methuen. She graduated from Methuen High in 1952, continued at Fitchburg State and Burbank Hospital School of Nursing with a BS in education and nursing in 1956. She started her nursing career in 1957 as supervisor at Lawrence General Hospital moving up to Director of Nursing from 1958-66. She then moved to NYC and took the position of Director of Nursing at Booth Memorial in Flushing N.Y from 1966-70.
Returning closer to home to care for her parents, Sonia accepted the job of Vice President for Nursing at Waltham Hospital from 1970-80. She finished her career working with pediatric specialist Dr. Barbara Hajjar in Salem, NH.
Sonia had a welcoming personality which made her a joy to meet. Her ready wit and lively disposition added a delightful zest to any conversation. She travelled around the world throughout her life, and enjoyed many summers at the beach with her dear friend Betty Budron in Salisbury, MA. Sonia was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
She will be greatly missed be her nieces Judith Lynch and her husband James of Naples, Florida, Kimberly Heidt and her husband Robert of Amesbury, MA and nephew Joseph Chamberlain and his wife Marci of West Palm, Florida. She also leaves and will be missed by several great nieces and nephews and close friends Barbara Hajjar, Lynda Sullivan, and Linda MacPherson.
