John R. "Pinky" McLaughlin, a 22 year resident of Reading and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at his home in Reading following a lengthy illness. He was 64 years of age.
John was born in Boston on July 5, 1957, a son of the late John McLaughlin and Lois (Caldwell) McLaughlin. He grew up in Charlestown, where he was educated in the Boston Public School System and graduated from Pope John High School in 1976. Following high school, John attended the Peterson School in order to learn a trade. He worked as a Third Class Stationary Engineer at the Chelsea Soldier's Home for 41 years. His favorite hobby was fishing in Newburyport and Hampton Beach. John cherished his wife and daughters above all else.
John is the beloved husband of 25 years to Sandra A. "Sandy" (Griffin) McLaughlin. He is the loving and devoted father to Annie McLaughlin, Katie McLaughlin, and to his "third" daughter Michaela Morrissey. He is the beloved son of the late John and Lois (Caldwell) McLaughlin. He is the lifelong friend of John Getchell and his wife Maureen. He is the loving son-in-law of Ann Griffin and the late William Griffin. He is the brother of Mandy Simmons and the late Timothy McLaughlin. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral on Friday, November 5, 2021 at 10 AM. from The Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 AM. His burial will be private. His visiting hours will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 4 P.M. to 7 PM. in the funeral home.
