Obituary

DEDHAM: Joan Seifer Weintraub of Dedham and North Falmouth, formerly of Wayland, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2021 at the age of 83.

Raised in Hudson, Massachusetts, Joan graduated from the Dana Hall School. She then went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree from Boston University. Joan lived in Boston while pursuing a teaching career. A fateful blind date facilitated by her life-long best friend led to her marriage to Dr. Lewis Weintraub.

Leaving teaching to raise her sons, Joan later went back to work as the administrator of Society Organized Against Racism in Higher Education (SOAR). Never one to stop learning, Joan was always eager to try new pursuits and had many hobbies. In recent years, spending time with her two grandchildren brought her the most pleasure. Above all, Joan will be remembered for her open mind, generous spirt, kind soul, and her dedication to volunteer work.

Joan lived in Wayland for over 40 years before moving to Newbridge on the Charles in Dedham with Lewis in 2011. Lewis died in 2013. She is survived by her two sons, Daniel and his wife Jessica of Charlestown and Jonathan and his wife Emily and their children Maren and Luke, of Wayland, her brother Joel Seifer and his wife Ruth of Acton, her brother-in law Alan Weintraub of Maryland, and the many nieces and nephews whom she adored. She is also survived by her companion Albert Kutenplon of Needham as well as Penny, her faithful cat.

Friends and family are invited to attend an indoor/outdoor reception to honor Joan’s life on Sunday, November 7th at 3:00 pm at Brae Burn Country Club, 326 Fuller Street, West Newton, MA. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to: Boston Medical Center, for the benefit of The Lewis R. Weintraub Fund for Hematology Research, Office of Development, 801 Massachusetts Avenue, First Floor, Boston, MA 02118-2393.
