Obituary

Alfred D. “Freddie” Martello 91, of Franklin, passed away peacefully, Tuesday October 26, 2021 at Blackstone Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Northbridge following an illness. He was the beloved husband of Shirley A. (Mucciarone) Martello, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

Born May 18, 1930, in Milford a son of the late Angelo and Giulia (Silveri) Martello, he was a lifelong resident of Franklin.

He was raised and educated in Franklin and was a graduate of Franklin High School class of 1948. During his time at Franklin High he was an outstanding athlete and lettered in 3 sports.

Following his graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Corporal and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably discharged in February 1954.

Upon returning home he worked for GAFF Industries as a textile worker and retired from Clark Cutler McDermott. Freddie then went to work for the Franklin Country Club as a greens keeper.

Freddie enjoyed being active, gardening, building birdhouses, puzzles, and watching all the Boston sports teams. Along with Shirley they made their annual trip to Aruba where he would walk the beach and watch the sunset. He was also an avid softball player and was known as a great pitcher for many years in the town league.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Bruce A. Martello and his wife Sally of South Dennis, RonaLee Crosby and her husband Robert of Plymouth, Julie Wood of Plymouth, and Leslie Martello and her husband Bruce Lerner of Franklin, a daughter in law Christine Martello of Blackstone, a sister Pauline Manocchio and her husband Alex of Franklin, and a sister in law Mary Jane Martello of Franklin.

He was the father of the late Barry J. “Marty” Martello, and brother of the late Harry Martello, John “Junior” Martello, Josephine Luccini, Mary Bertoni, Anthony Martello, Elynor Vendetti, Phyllis Certuse, Ann Balser and father in law of the late Kenneth Wood.

Also surviving are his 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Tues. Nov. 2nd, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Franklin at 10AM.

Interment with military honors will follow at the parish cemetery.

Calling hours are Monday from 4-7PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the American Heart Association.
