Stella (Romano) Calisi, age 92, of Somerville passed away on Monday, October 25th. Born and raised in Ponza, Lazio, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Filomena Romano. Stella immigrated to the U.S. in 1948, settling first in The Bronx, NY before marrying and moving to Somerville.
Stella was employed by the Celtics, and for 42 years by the Bruins, whom she considered her “second family.” She worked for the Bruins until two years ago when she was 90 years old. Stella loved to cook and her home was always open to everyone. She was the life of the party and especially loved spending time with her great grandchildren.
Stella was the beloved wife of the late Gino Calisi, and the devoted mother of Anthony Calisi and his wife Mary of Somerville, Gina Pellegrini and her husband James of Canton, and Joseph Calisi of Somerville. She was the loving grandmother of Nicholas Calisi of Somerville, Katie Boiardi and her husband Alex of Billerica, Marissa Tipping and her husband EJ of Lynn, Christina Pellegrini, Lauren Brooks and her husband Coulton, all of Playa del Rey, CA, and Liandra Pellegrini of Canton. Stella was the loving great grandmother of Cali, Rocco and Marin Boiardi, and Addison and Teddy Tipping. She was the dear sister of Assunta Marcangelo and her husband John of Burlington, and the late Angelina and Francesco Romano, the late Maria and Salvatore Romano, and the late Sylvia and Fantasia Romano. Stella is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visiting hours Monday, November 1st, from 4 through 8 PM.in the the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Funeral Tuesday, November 2nd at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Ann Church, 399 Medford St., Somerville, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
